The Bark of the Bog Owl
(The Wilderking Trilogy, Book 1)

by Jonathan Roger

Twelve-year-old Aidan Errolson comes from a long line of adventurers. His grandparents were among the first settlers of Corenwald’s Eastern Frontier. His father had been one of the kingdom’s greatest warriors. Aidan, on the other hand, lives the quiet, comfortable life of a nobleman’s son. He never has any real adventures, and that, he believes, is the one great injustice of his otherwise happy life.

All that will change the day he first hears the bark of the bog owl and meets Dobro Turtlebane. Dobro is one of the feechiefolk—a tribe of half-civilized swamp dwellers who fight too much, laugh too loud, cry too easily, and smell just terrible. But another meeting on that remarkable day may change Aidan’s life even more profoundly. Bayard the Truthspeaker arrives with a startling pronouncement: Aidan Errolson will grow to be the Wilderking—the long-prophesied wild man who will come out of Corenwald’s forests and swamps to lead the kingdom back to its former glory. There’s just one question: Is Bayard the Truthspeaker a prophet or a madman?

This initial installment in The Wilderking Trilogy is sure to capture the hearts of young and old, boys and girls alike. Written in the same fashion as The Lord of the Rings or The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Bark of the Bog Owl, as the author says, will help “direct a God-fearing boy’s sense of adventure and warrior spirit – his God-given wildness.”

Opening Lines:

"He's making for the canebrake!" Aidan shouted over the thunder of horses' hooves. Both he and Prince Steren heaved their spears, but the quarry was too far away. The great boar hog slashed his way between wrist-thick stalks of river cane, and his black, bristling mass vanished into the blackness of the canebrake.

The Secret of the Swamp King
(The Wilderking Trilogy, Book 2)

by Jonathan Roger

Your Majesty --

I write to warn you: your most dangerous enemy dwells under your roof. Beware the youngest son of Errol. He has convinced himself that he is the Wilderking of ancient prophecy, and the rightful occupant of the throne at Tambluff. His every action is calculated to convince your courtiers of the same...He shamelessly claims to be friends with feechiefolk, part of a scheme to build a legend around himself that is in keeping with the Wilderking Prophecy. Your majesty, it pains me to accuse a fellow Corenwalder of treason. But it pains me more to think that my king would be nurturing a traitor under his own roof.

Yours sincerely,
A loyal subject

Opening Lines:

A civilizer captured in the Feechiefen. More civilizers on the way with cold-shiny spears and swords and axes and saws. The swamp was abuzz with rumors of new civilizer trouble. When the news reached Bug Neck, Dobro Turtlebane and Aidan Errolson--or Pantherbane, as the feechies knew him--left immediately. They poled all night for Scoggin Mound, where Chief Tombro's feechies held the captured civilizer.

The Way of the Wilderking
(The Wilderking Trilogy, Book 3)
by Jonathan Roger

When civilizer Aidan Errolson returns home to Corenwald after three years in Feechiefen Swamp, he is shocked to discover a newly form party known as the Aidanites. They believe the ancient "Wilderking Chant" makes reference to Aidan, and that he is destined to overthrow the tyrant King Darrow.

Aidan has no intention of leading any rebellion. However, as Corenwald weakens and the Pyrthen Empire threatens to invade, it seems that the Aidanites may be the only army the Corenwalders have left. What happens next among civilizers, feechiefolk, and Pyrthens, no one could have imagined.
