Opening Lines:
A sad thing happens to most people when they grow up. As their bodies get bigger, their imaginations get smaller. In time, their imaginations become so tiny and timid that they are afraid to go out alone. That's why kids have always been the greatest explorers. And among the greatest of them all are Matterhorn the Brave and his friends. Matterhorn is a brave knight, when he isn't busy being a twelve-year-old-boy. Few people have heard of him, which isn't surprising, for most of his adventures happened in other times and places. And like all who know how to travel, he has learned to do so without drawing attention to himself. He and his friends have been around the globe, under the earth and over the moon. Not bad for kids who don't even have driver's licenses. |
The Sword and the Flute/Talis Hunters

Opening Lines:
Matterhorn didn't have time to protect his face from being smashed into stone. But instead of hard rock, he felt a tightening slick surface as if he were being shrink-wrapped in plastic. He could not move. He could not breathe. He was trapped between moments, suspended in time. |

Opening Lines:
Across the room, a second set of intruders arrived in a flying heap. Thanks to the enlarged traveling field Etham left in his wake, all four Travelers made it through. The Baron heaved a sigh of relief at the familiar surroundings. The Cub's default setting had worked! Taking no chances with this bunch, the Praetorian shot forward and grabbed an armful of bodies. "What are you doing?" demanded a second Praetorian from the hall. "Seizing intruders," the first answered. |

Opening Lines:
Rylan somersaulted across the tan carpet and bounced to his feet, senses on full alert. "Where are we?" he demanded. "The Propylon," Bea said with relief. "Welcome home." Still tense, Rylan said, "I do not recognize this room." "It used to be storage space," the Baron said. "The Queen lets me use it for a workshop. We're not far from the Earth Room." Rylan had mixed feelings about being back. He had never expected to see the Propylon again. |
